Thank YOU for sharing so much with us, Eugeio.

On a back channel, someone asked me to follow up and ask if you might share some "nitty gritty" on why you think things are in disarray down there in Mexico, rally-wise. We might have a decent number of events, and managed to send one or two to the WRC, but when we look to the south, we see you guys have managed to attract the FIA, series sponsorship, and (perhaps most important) crowds.

It could be very valuable to the global rally community to compare notes; what are the most damning issues facing the sport, relative to region, and such. I'm thinking, if all the organizers in the world shared their most frustrating issues, there would be existing solutions to some of them, and it might be possible to develop a global action plan to mitigate the others.

Hi! Thanks for the positive comments. Regarding the security issues, I apologise if I seemed to have implied that they were not real. It was not my intention at all. The issues are VERY real, they are incredibly difficult to live with for millions of people, and they are not getting better. The good thing is that the violence is self-restricted to the areas around the main transport routes to the U.S., and it doesn't touch either my life in Mexico City or the rally route around León, Silao & Guanajuato. The bad thing is that there is no guarantee that it will remain so in the coming years.

Great article, Eugenio Perea seems very thoughtful.

One topic that was hinted at but not gone into is the security issues that currently face the country. He inferred this was media hype, but it would have been a great question to go deeper into.

Great interview! Amazing insights from Mr. Perea made this a worthwhile read. I really have never thought about the carbon footprint of a rally, but knowing that Mr. Perea and others are aware of this AND working to offset it makes me very thankful. Great work. I used to run an off road racing series in Ontario Canada and we awarded the class champions free entry fees for the next season. All they had to pay for was the next years membership. It was an added incentive that the racers really enjoyed.

how a greater number of smaller events might impact rally turnouts and this

I don't know why it's like that in the states, but here in Denmark we have quite a few one-day events. They are very well visited because they're just easier. It's a small country so if you don't mind a long day, a lot of times you don't need to worry about motel/hotel and such.
Sprints are pretty big too, not just in industrial parks. They h the same advantages, and are also much more spectator friendly.

That they would! Would you prefer more smaller events which cost less to
enter or fewer larger events which cost more? Where is the happy medium?

In fact the rally is two days, because tech and recce are on day 1 with the rally taking most of day 2. But I agree a simgle day event is a good way to get started. In the UK single venue, single day events are very common.

Personally, I wouldn't mind more compact, single day rallies like this. It
seems they could prove a good way to ease entry to the sport and grow the
ranks.
